Welcome to #RitualInBloom. A space where our community shares wellness rituals that help us connect with our bodies—because many of us here at Superbloom can’t “self-care” away our chronic conditions.

We chatted with Tianna Redhead about the holistic wellness practices that help her live a healthy lifestyle – from mind, body, and soul. Read on to learn how Tianna has created rituals that support her overall wellness and joy.

Where do you live and how do you describe yourself to others—not just what you are doing but who you are working on “being”?

I’m a full time student, social media marketing in the health and wellness space, Intraprenuer, Podcast host, and content creator based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I’m working on getting to a space where I feel healthy in all aspects; mentally, physically, soulset, relationships. On top of this, through my own personal health and wellness journey, I strive to become someone who paves the way for others and guides them through their own self-discovery. My mission is to instill the importance of taking care of yourself (body, mind, soul), to acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers and the importance of being open and willing to learn each day. Additionally, I wish to help others recognize their abilities, the power in their stories and that someone else needs to hear to help them get past an obstacle they may be facing.

How do you connect to your body?

Daily movement is a crucial part of my everyday routine which not only allows me to take care of my body and feel good, while setting up my day for success. It shifts my thinking and makes me have a clear mind, driven, and productive.

I pay attention to how my body feels in different scenarios such as when talking to people, eating food, working. I am a huge believer in the mind, body, soul connection and understand that my body is trying to help me by giving me signs if something is aligned with me or not.

We can see that skincare, fitness, and nutrition are major parts of your daily life. How do these different practices help you find a holistic sense and feeling of wellness for your body and mind?

Healthy living from the inside-out is a motto that I live by because we are so much more than just our exterior being. We have to treat and take care of ourselves, inside and out to improve our overall health. Once I implemented this practice into my life, I started to really see, feel, and understand the power of holistic wellness.

I suffered with cystic acne for a few years and when I started to pay attention to what I was putting on my skin, my stress levels, my self-talk around my skin I noticed the unintentional harm that was being done so I had to make a shift. I completely switched what I was using in my routine to make sure that everything I was using was extremely clean and beneficial. On top of this it may sound odd but for a year when I did my skincare routine I said this affirmation as I would massage the product into my skin, “My skin is clear, I’m acne free.” Skincare it’s not just about getting off my makeup or cleaning my face, it’s a whole healing process to help my skin from the outside.

Next comes nutrition! Nutrition is something that not only helps me with my skin, but also my energy levels, my stomach pains, bloating and more. For a long time I thought my body was against me until I realized that my everyday actions were against my body. From there I started to slowly implement new healthy habits to segue into a new lifestyle. I would listen to my body and see how it reacted to different foods and what I could tolerate and what wasn’t beneficial for me.

Finally, fitness was once something that I initially did to appear a certain way to others, but now it has become something for me. It’s a way for me to reach new goals and growth everyday, to release tension, and to feel good and accomplished afterwards.

What’s your favorite mode of expression?

Music is something that expresses what I’m feeling when I don’t have the words. It’s a way to feel like someone else understands what you’re going through. Music has helped me get through some of the hardest moments in my life, but has also helped me get excited for new accomplishments and celebrations.

What are your wellness rituals?

Skincare

My morning and evening skincare routine is an absolute must for me!! It begins and closes my day on a high note!

Daily Greens Drink

My daily greens drink is a way for me to ensure I get the nutrients and vitamins I need for my day. I’m not a coffee drinker so I like to call this my morning coffee. It is a blend of 37 Phytonutrients, Digestive Enzymes, Pre & Probiotics, and hyaluronic acid!! Not only does it give me energy, but it also aids my skin from the inside!

Working out (Spin, Yoga, Strength)

I workout 3-5 times a week and this really gets me in a good headspace for the day. I like to switch between a Spin Class, Yoga Practice, or a Strength or Toning Workout for variety!

Feed my soul (podcast, motivational videos)

Each day I listen to 1-3 Podcast/Motivational Videos to feed my mind and soul with good energy. This gets me excited for the day to come and helps me create good intentions for my work. My go-tos are Eric Thomas, The Mindset Mentor, Gary Vee, Robin Sharma, Jay Shetty on Purpose, or The Red Table Talk

Tea in the evening

Every night my tea is a must!! I have herbal tea along with my adaptogenic de-stress powder which helps me get to a calm state and ready for bed. When I have my tea I know work is over and this is my time to wind down. I think setting those boundaries is so important so that you don’t overwork yourself.

How has your experience to your health and your body changed over the years?

Previously, I would look at my body and see it as something that was working against me. I used to get really down and victimize myself for the negative aspects of my health, though I wasn’t attempting to take the time to learn, understand, and help my body move from this space. After having enough I decide to take a deeper look into my health and work with my body instead of against it. I took the time to educate myself on the different issues I was dealing with from autoimmune disease, cystic acne, stomach issues and learned how I should be treating my body. Through this shift I actually fell in love with the whole health and wellness space. I now don’t look at my body as something against me, but I work with it to improve everyday. I get excited when I see signs of healing! It reminds me that all of this work is so beneficial.

What’s one wellness issue you’ve struggled with that could help liberate other women going through a similar experience?

Discoid Lupus is an autoimmune disease which creates disc-like plaques on the skin. With any skin issue (Acne, Discoid, Eczema, Psoriasis etc.) it can really cause a lot of self-esteem problems. The stress that we bring our bodies through worrying or anxiousness around our skin can truly make the problem worse. I really want to encourage anyone who is struggling with a skin problem to work on their mindset. I feel like when it comes to skin especially we may focus on food and skincare but I truly believe your mind is just as important. Your mind is such a powerful thing and can truly do a lot of healing. Our brains literally do not have the ability to believe two opposing thoughts at once. With that being said if focus on areas of self-love, self-talk, confidence, gratitude, and visualization. I know this sounds very woo-woo but this was truly the missing piece for many years before my healing journey! Don’t discredit the power of the mind!!

What rituals have you learned to help support you in navigating that challenge?

I think the most beneficial skill set that has helped me navigate through health challenges  was consistent effort and discipline surrounding your health. It is so important to be consistent with your health because that effort will make great progress over time as opposed to starting and stopping every few weeks.

If you had to choose one wellness ritual that has changed your life, what would it be?

It’s hard to pick just one, but I think one of the most impactful rituals is my spin classes! I love riding in Alex Toussaint’s spin class on Peloton. Although I don’t know him personally, his class has truly helped me not only physically but mentally too! His classes have instilled a routine in me, made me love fitness for how it makes me feel, and makes me be grateful for everything in life. He’s honestly become such a mentor of mine and I look forward to taking his classes all the time!

You clearly have an artistic eye when it comes to creating content. What are you inspired by?

I’m actually finishing up my degree in Fashion Communications! Fashion Photography and Editorial in general has always been something that I’ve loved! Some of my favourite Fashion OG Photographers are Steven Meisel, RIchard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh & Horst P Horst! I love creating content that evokes a feeling and/or incorporates some aspect of movement.

What’s the wellness advice you would give your younger self?

SLEEP! Sleep is one of the most underrated things that will aid your help! When you are sleep deprived it’s not only a mental effect of lack of energy, but that also doesn’t allow your body to restore and charge which can lead to so many other problems. Your body needs time to gain energy, repair and heal, remove toxins. Staying up late because you didn’t manage your time well or want to watch a story is only going to harm you in the long run. Don’t compromise the time you need for sleep.

Also, YOU ONLY HAVE ONE BODY! Do what you can now to create healthy habits not only physically, but mentally too. Take the time to learn more about yourself, release yourself from any baggage you may be holding onto and treat your body like the temple it is! Trust me… You will see the benefits!!
